THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver slammed on his breaks, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!"

This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck." He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and so metimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally.

Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets. The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so..... "Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't."

Quicken me after thy lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of thy mouth.

There's that word "quicken" again. Meaning, to make alive.
Jesus has made me alive to love Him, and to enjoy life.

Here we see that, His "lovingkindness" makes me alive to be as He is.
MY testimony should be HIS testimony! If it is MY testimony only, then it is tainted with personal satisfaction.
In this section of the psalmist's use of the Hebrew letter caph, he complains of how people have treated him. He asks God how long will he have to suffer in this way (verse 84). He even asks when God will exact judgment upon those who have wronged him (verse 84). Because: They have "digged pits" (verse 85), trying to snare him. They "persecute" him wrongfully (verse 86).

But the psalmist does not ask for retribution or revenge!
He asks to be changed! He asks to be changed by God's b>"lovingkindness." He asks that the change affect him so that he can keep GOD'S testimony.

God's testimony is truth mixed with love, joy, peace, kindness, gentleness, patience, faith, and meekness.
And God's testimony is constantly the same!

Now THAT'S a "testimony!"

Lord, please make me alive by the use of Your lovingkindness.
And make me alive so that no matter what "garbage" others have, I will be able to keep Your testimony.

Love ya,
Bruce
