THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Alfred was in the mall with his wife. Suddenly he realized he was alone, and she had wandered off.

He approached a beautiful young lady, and asked, "I've lost my wife in the mall somewhere. Would you stand here and talk to me for a few moments?"

She asked, "Why?"

He said, "Because my wife is very jealous. And every time I begin talking to a beautiful young lady, she suddenly appears!"

Ex 20:4-5
4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God....

THOUGHT______________________________________________________________________

Believer in Christ, God loves you so much that He willingly gave Himself on a cruel cross for your atonement and salvation. This is a comforting thought, for God cares deeply about our being.

This is also an instructive thought.

He instructs us to not worship ourselves or any other god.
God cares so much for us, He cannot bear that we should give our worship to another. And that includes our self! The very basis for our salvation is surrender.
Jesus said, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23) Let us not, then, worship another, nor set our own desires above His directives.

He instructs us to not place the basis of our trust in any other thing.
God cares for us so much that He desires out trust above all other things. Yes, we trust in monetary security for our retirement. Yes, we trust in our homes to keep us from the storms. Yes, we trust in our armies to keep us safe. But let us realize that God is the Giver of those things, and base our trust solely upon Him. As Hezekiah said about the King of Assyria, "With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us..." (2 Chron 32:8)

He instructs us to spend time with Him in fellowship and prayer.
God cares for us so much that He is jealous for our companionship. There is no other in whom we can rely upon, or confide in as deeply as Jesus, our Lord. It should be most important to us that we spend very special time with Him each day.

We should enjoy His company and fellowship, for He is comforting to us!

Let us be as jealous for God as He is for us!

Love ya,
Bruce
