THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
The young boy scout was out trying to raise money for his troop by collecting bottles and cans. He came to one house and asked the lady, "Pardon me Ma'am. Do you have any old beer bottles or cans here that we can have?"
The lady had a very self-righteous look and retorted, "Young man! Do I look like the kind of person who would drink beer?!"
The young boy said, "Pardon me Ma'am. Do you have any old vinegar bottles?"

Ps 19:12-14
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

Do we sometimes get so heavenly good that we are of no earthly use? The lady in the joke above wouldn't think of being a gross sinner. But little did she know, that the sin of pride was gross to others.
David realizes our finiteness. We are totally unable to realize sin on our own. Jesus said, "If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin." (John 15:22)
Without God's intervention in our lives, we would not recognize that we are sinners and in need of a Savior. Thus we should pray that God will keep us from sin; especially from "presumptuous" (verse 13 above) sin -- the sin of arrogance and pride. Only when we are humble does God make us upright!
Christians are sinners too (Romans 3:23). And we need God's intervention in our lives to reveal our sin so that we can confess and beg His forgiveness. This is what keeps us in a right relationship with God. It is God's desire that our "meditations" (thoughts) are "acceptable" to Him. This can only be true if God reveals our sins and we confess them and ask His help in overcoming them.
We especially need God's help daily to make us "fit" messengers of His love and grace. God also desires that the "words of my mouth" be acceptable to Him and reflect His love to the world.
Let us personally commit all our thoughts, words and actions to God Himself, and pray that they will be "acceptable" to Him.
Then, let us pray that God, by His Holy Spirit and Word, will cause us to be "fit" messengers of His love and grace to the world.
Love ya,
Bruce
