THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

A construction superintendent had been working in that capacity
for over 30 years and was retiring.
He had a tremendous reputation for building fine houses, and was
asked by his boss to build one more house in a rural area just
outside the town in which he lived.

Since he was paid on commission, and needed a little extra for
retirement, he decided to do something he had never done.
He "skimped" on the materials.
When completed the house looked fine on the outside, but he
knew it was substandard.
Then he reported the completion to his boss, and collected his
final paycheck.

Just before he left, the boss said, "Here are the keys to that house,
it's YOURS!"

Matt 7:24-27
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and
doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his
house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the
winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not:
for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and
doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which
built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds
blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the
fall of it.

Light from the Word.

There are only three major things to consider when building a house:
Materials, Workmanship, and Foundation.

Though the materials are excellent, if built shoddily or on a bad
foundation, the house won't stand.
Though the workmanship be excellent, if built with inferior materials
or on a bad foundation, the house won't stand.
Though materials and workmanship be excellent, if built upon a poor
foundation, the house won't stand.

The statement from Christ in Matthew 7:24-27 comes at the end
of "The Sermon On The Mount."
It is our Lord's formula for building our spiritual house.
The materials used are to be His Word.
The workmanship is prayerful obedience.
The foundation is our relationship with Christ.

Too often, Christians choose inferior materials with which to build
their spiritual house.
Some will accept what the preacher preaches, what the teacher
teaches, or what Mom and Dad said.
But our direction from Christ is to diligently search out God's Word
for the principles and truths, using them as materials.

We must admit sometimes we are inattentive, lax and apathetical in
our labor for Christ.
We must work the materials into our lives wisely.

And how many of us can truthfully say that we always build upon
Christ as the foundation?
Do we not substitute our own personal wants and desires at times?

Use your personal relationship with Christ as the foundation.
Use the Word of God as your materials.
Then, use prayerful consideration to apply His principals to your life.

THAT's a spiritual house which endures for eternity.

Love ya!
