THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Three doctors were waiting in line to get into the pearly gates. St. Peter walked out and asked the first one, "What have you done to enter Heaven?"

"I am a pediatrician and have brought thousands of the Lord's babies into the world." "Good enough to enter the gates," replied St. Peter.

St. Peter asked the 2nd doctor the same question. He said, "I'm a general practitioner, but I have traveled to third world countries every year to help cure the poor." Impressed, Peter allowed the man in.

The third doctor stepped up in line and knowing the question, blurted out, "I am a director of a HMO."

St. Peter meditates on this for a while and then says, "Fine, you can enter Heaven...but only for 2 days!"

John 14:16-17
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

THOUGHT______________________________________________________________

Our Great God, the God Almighty, has always been "Immanuel" - God WITH us!
When God revealed that Jesus would be called by that name, it was a revelation of His character as much as a revelation of God in flesh.

Adam knew God Almighty Who walked WITH him in the garden.
Abraham knew God Almighty Who met him on the plains of Mamre.
The disciples knew Jesus Who walked and talked with them.

Born again Christians today have the "Spirit of truth" with them. He is the Spirit of God Almighty, Immanuel -- God WITH us! He is the "parakletos," or Comforter, Advocate and Intercessor. The Greek word also indicates "One Who walks alongside."

He is the presence of God.
He brings us to new life.
He empowers us.
By Him we are sealed to eternal glory.
He guides us.
He rules us.

Are we aware of His presence as we should be?
Do we realize that we cannot control His power in and through us?
Are we aware that He is sovereign in the church, the body of believers?
Are we anxious to beg His help in all matters that face us?

Let us humble ourselves before Christ our Lord.
And let us plead for His Holy Comforter to be sovereign in our hearts and lives.

Love ya,
Bruce
