THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

A young man applied for a job with a building contractor. The contractor hired him temporarily and told him he would be watched carefully. At the end of the first day, the contractor gave the young man his pay and told him he was no longer needed.

The young man asked, "Wasn't I working pretty good? What did I do wrong?"

The contractor said, "Well, the main problem is that you hammer nails like lightning."

The young man replied, "Well, you mean I'm FAST?"

The contractor said, "No, son. I mean you never strike twice in the same place!"

Phil 3:13-14
13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

In our Bible Study, conducted by Dr. John Traylor, last night we learned about consistency and persistence.

In today's world, we seem to get very busy. Perhaps we fill up our time with too many things. And the things that we should be doing as Christians we fail to be busy about.

Paul said he had not yet apprehended, or attained what he should be for the Lord. But he was purposefully placing worldly things aside and pressing forward toward a specific goal. That goal he described as "the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

What is that high calling? Some say it is to be more like Christ with each day. Some say that high calling is to tell others the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ.

Paul said (Philippians 3:7-8) that he counted worldly things as LOSS, and sought to be found in the righteousness of Christ and in the knowledge of Christ.

Here is a good perspective on Christian consistency and persistence:
1) Daily learn more about what our Lord wants from us,
2) Daily apply those things we learn to our lives.
