THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

A woman called the First National Bank to ask about information concerning bonds.

The clerk responded, "Conversion or redemption?"

There was a long pause on the telephone.

Finally, the lady said, "Pardon me, do I have the First National Bank or the First Baptist Church?"

James 3:13
13 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.
KJV

When's the last time you heard the quaint phrase "in a family way?"

It's hard to imagine that the word "pregnant" was once considered a little too graphic, a little too clinical for use in polite company.

So we had all that talk about stork visits and "being in a family way" or simply "expecting."

It seems to me that the conversations/communications of television and movies have influenced us more than we'd like to admit. Some people are not "meek" when it comes to usage of certain words. Some folk, even Christians, have allowed various "4-letter" words to enter their vocabulary. And they've never learned to utilize "wisdom" to replace those descriptive words.

James says we are to use "meekness of wisdom." As we grow and learn, we are to discipline ourselves and always use a vocabulary that glorifies our Lord.

1 Peter 1:15-16
15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation ;
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
KJV
