THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><>

The little boy was talking to the girl next door: "I wonder what my mother would like for Mother's Day."

The girl answered, "Well, you could promise to keep your room clean and orderly; you could go to bed as soon as she tells you; you could go to her as soon as she callsyou; you could brush your teeth after eating; you could quit fighting with your brothers and sisters."

He said, "No. I mean something practical."

Matt 28:16-20
16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. 17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Jesus is Lord of creation (Hebrews 1:2).
Jesus is Lord of salvation (John 14:6)
Jesus is Lord of the resurrection (1Corinthians 15:21-22).
Jesus is the Eternal Judge (Romans 14:10)
And Jesus is Lord of discipleship -- (see our text).

Discipleship is being a willing student and servant.

The reason the disciples SAW Jesus on the mountain in Galilee is because they were OBEDIENT to His instructions. He had told them to come there and meet Him.

And, there on that mountain, Jesus gave them some final instructions. Those instructions included three commands, and one promise.

  1. "Go!" They were not to stay in one place just worshipping, but were to go about daily life.
  2. "Make disciples." As they were going, they were to tell others how to be saved.
  3. "Teach them." When they brought people to a saving knowledge of Christ, they were to TRAIN those people in being Christians by using the Word of God.
  4. The promise is, "Lo, I am with you ALWAY." Christ's presence will accompany those who are obedient in discipleship.

Worship, prayer and study of the Bible are important parts of our salvation because they help us maintain a personal relationship with Christ. Fellowship is an important part of our salvation because it yields strength in our lives.

Discipleship is equally important because it is the manner in which we fulfill God's purposes in our lives. One of those purposes is reproduction. Discipleship is important because without it, we cannot fulfil our commission from our Lord.

To genuinely know Christ's presence we must be obedient disciples.
