THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
The young man accepted the call to his first pastorate at a small church in the "panhandle" of Texas.
On the first Sunday, it had snowed really hard.
When he arrived at the church, there was only one older man.
After they talked awhile, the young pastor said, "Sir, I believe we should go visit some people and tell them about the Lord, Jesus."
The man said, "Now, wait a minute pastor; let's take it easy a minute. We done built this here church. We done opened the door. We done got lights. We done got heat. If'n they wanna come to church, that's fine. If'n they don't, they can just go to the devil!"

Amos 6:1
Woe to them that are at ease in Zion...

"Zion" is another name for Jerusalem, the capitol of Judah.
In Amos' day, "Zion" was the center-place of the worship of Jehovah God.
Note God proclaims "Woe" to them through the prophet Amos!
"Woe" denotes impending disaster!
Why did God send disaster to His own people?
Because they were "at ease in Zion."
They played more than they prayed.
They trusted more in their military strength than in the Word of God.
Instead of telling the world of salvation, they were focused on self-pleasure.
When nations become prolific and prosperous, they are apt to procrastinate about the important things, and "party" too much!
Actions like these lead to DISASTER!!
The church is the center-place of the worship of Jesus Christ today.
Let us NOT be "at ease in Zion!"
Let us be diligent about the:
evangelism of the lost,
the education of the saved,
and the ministry of the needy.
Love ya,
Bruce
