THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><>

A new physical exercise program has been introduced to help people lose weight and get in better shape.

It's the simplest program introduced in many years.

Place the TV at one end of your house and the refrigerator at the other end.

1 Tim 4:7-9
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation. (KJV)

The exercise of the body is a wise thing because it helps us maintain what we have been given. However, the "profit" of that physical exercise is eventually doomed to failure because we all die (unless our Lord returns beforehand). Only 2 people out of 1Billion live over 110 years.

We must acknowledge though, that physical exercise makes a body "feel better."

Now spiritual exercise DOES produce a profit, and one that is noticeable. The spiritual exercise which Paul speaks of here is exercising "godliness." The Greek word for godliness is "eusebeia," which means to produce piety. And piety is usually defined as religious devotion to God.

It's interesting that the Bible defines "godliness" as refusing to listen to "profane and old wives' fables."

Here is one of the simplest "fat-reducing" exercising programs for spirituality. Simply refuse to listen to stories presented without factual evidence. To do so is to exercise godliness and reflects our devotion to God.

Now THIS is indeed a "faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation."

Love ya,
