THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

The little boy was having trouble sleeping at night. He kept imagining "buggers" being under his bed.

So his parents took him to a well-known psychiatrist. The psychiatrist said, "I can help him, but he will need to visit me about 10 times. Each visit is about $90."

The psychiatrist told the parents to make appointments with his secretary, and the parents and the little boy left.

About a month later, the psychiatrist saw the little boy in church. He asked, "Aren't you the one who came to me for help?"
The little boy said, "Yes, sir."
The psychiatrist asked, "Why didn't you come back?"
The little boy said, "My Dad couldn't afford your visits. But he cured me!"
Psychiatrist, "How did he do that, is he a doctor?"
Little boy, "No. He's not a doctor, sir. But he sawed the legs off my bed. No "buggers" can get under there now!"

SCRIPTURE____________________________________________________________________

Ps 37:1-4
1 A Psalm of David.
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

THOUGHT______________________________________________________________________

Here we see the inner heart of David.
Here we are given thought as to the inner heart of every Christian.

This song was written by David from the intimacy of his meditation. He simply recorded the thoughts given to him through personal relationship with God. And we notice that in this particular place, David's emotions were probably leading toward concern for "evildoers" in this world.

Christian, do you have those concerns? Of course you do! You see how much evil is spread in this world and you wonder, "How long, God, can we endure it?"

Sometimes I catch myself being overly concerned about those who determine to do wrong even in the face of the witness of Jesus Christ. It will not be long and God will call the final judgment day. My concern is, "have we reached all we can reach today?"

The Scripture shows the thoughts God gives when we have those concerns. We are not to be "envious" of those who live without God and obtain power, wealth, and prestige in this world. Christians are not to try and be like the world; but rather we are called to take Jesus to the world.

David exhorts himself, and all those who love the Lord, to trust in Him and not be overly concerned about the predominance of evil. If our trust is in God, then we realize that the "end" (which is eternity) is much greater than the "now."

If we "delight" ourselves in the Lord, we will have HIS DESIRES in our hearts. It will be what GOD wants that will be important to us. Therefore we shall certainly receive what HE wants.

The true desires of the regenerated, Spirit-filled, born-again believer is to LOVE God, and to DO His will in life, EVEN when we face a seemingly predominance of evil.

God will bless those desires and make them fruitful in His work.

Love ya,
Bruce
