Ex 25:22
And there I will meet with thee, and I will commune with thee from above the mercy seat....

The establishment of the mercy seat on the "ark of the covenant" was God's way of saying that He is always present, and always willing to hear the prayers of His people. However, for prayers to be effectively heard, the people had to come, acknowledging that they NEEDED mercy!
Prayer is an act of mercy on God's part, and an act of faith on our part. It is indeed merciful of God to hear our list of necessities, wants, and intercession for others. We are unworthy of such a loving God Who listens to such pride-filled creatures.
Prayer is acknowledging our poorness and God's wealth.
Prayer is acknowledging God's fullness and our emptiness.
Prayer is acknowledging God's strength and our weakness.
Prayer is acknowledging God's loftiness and our lowliness.
The other night, in our Jesus Saves Crusade, Bro. Joe Senn was preaching fervently. All of a sudden he stopped, and looked at the lady "signing" for the deaf. He said, "Ma'am, would you show me the international sign for SURRENDER?" Quickly, she lifted both hands into the air.
Prayer is a total surrender of the created to the Creator!
In the New Testament, the "mercy seat" is replaced by the CROSS! The most graphic symbol of surrender is the CROSS. There Christ surrendered not only His body, but His pride. By yielding to the death of the cross, Christ graphically protrayed FORGIVENESS. His outstretched hands symbolize God's willingness to give all He is to be all that we need.
Let us remember that we must come to the CROSS when we pray. There we surrender all that we are to become what God wants!
And when faith meets mercy, MIRACLES HAPPEN!
Love ya,
Bruce
