THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

A church was trying to stress the importance of family. They planned a "Family Night" on a Friday. Next Sunday, the announcement appeared in the bulletin.

"The Magic of Lassie, a film for the whole family, will be shown Friday evening at 6PM in the church fellowship hall. Free puppies will be given to all children not accompanied by parents."

Gen 12:4-5
4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

Family IS important!

Terah had three sons: Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Terah died in his 205th year - the last to live over 200 years. Abram left Haran when his father died (Acts 7:4). Abram was 75 at that time (Gen. 12:4). So Abram must have been born in Terah's 130th year. I believe this tells us that Abram was Terah's youngest son. And that would mean that Lot was the son of the oldest. Lot's father, Haran, had died before the family left Ur and moved to a place they named Haran (Gen. 11:28). That's why Lot was important enough for Abram to take with him. He was the eldest son of the eldest son.

Note that Abram took Lot even though this was a special burden to him. Family is VERY important.

Later, Abraham, even though he is chosen and called of God, will defer to Lot. He will give Lot the CHOICE of the land. Also Abraham will risk his life to rescue Lot when he is captured. And Abraham will stand personally before God and plea for Lot to be spared from Sodom.

Family IS important!!

Christian, you've been called by God to move from the land of your nativity to a land far away - Heaven.
It's important that you take your family WITH you! Some of them may be hard to win to Christ. Some of them may cause you heartache. Some of them may need more prayer and special attention.

But family IS important!!

Love ya,
Bruce
