THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

Inside the hospital room, the wife asked the pastor to pray for her husband to be healed.

Later, as they walked out of the hospital room. The wife looked at the pastor and said, "I do hope you'll be able to hold my husband's funeral."

Heb 5:6-9
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Melchisedec is mentioned in the Bible but never in history. There is no record of his birth or death. The name Melchisedec means "king of righteousness." He was the priest to whom Abraham offered tithes and offerings (Genesis 14:18-2).

Jesus' appointment as the "High Priest of Righteousness" is of a higher order than that of Aaron's priesthood. Jesus is THE Priest of mankind. He is the Priest FOREVER. There is no beginning or ending to His preisthood, for He Himself IS the beginning and ending.

When Jesus was "in the flesh" He offered particular prayers at the Garden of Gethsemane the night before His crucifixion. His prayers were "heard," because He "feared." The word for "feared" is the Greek enlabeia which can reflect the meaning dread or reverence. In this context, I believe it means reverence, or complete trust. Jesus' prayers were heard because He had complete trust in God.

Jesus was and is the One and only SON of God. It is in His power to grant that many may become "sons of God" (John 1:12). But even though Jesus was the ONLY Son of God, He still learned in His physical life to be OBEDIENT. And He "suffered" just like you and me. But, even in His suffering, Jesus ALWAYS "feared" God.

He was "made perfect" through His total obedience, and has become the "Author of eternal salvation" for all mankind.

PRAISE GOD! We have a High Priest Who is familiar with the sufferings of life. And when we come to Him in "fear" (reverence), we are HEARD!

Love ya,
Bruce
