THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

I remember one night in the hospital with Dad after he had a major stroke. We were in the physical therapy ward, and Dad was trying to go to sleep.

They moved another patient into the room with us, and that took about 30 minutes. Then, that patient didn't want to sleep, he wanted to talk. Finally, about midnight, he went to sleep.

Then, there was a cart going up and down the hall. It had a bad tire, and THUMP, THUMP, THUMP was the sound. Also, I think they put pots and pans on those carts. Because it was clanging and banging loudly for about an hour.

Then, about 2am, they came to take Dad's blood pressure and temperature. Of course, that wakened the other guy, and he wanted to talk.

Hospitals are not a place for REST!!
But Jesus IS!

Matt 11:28-30
28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

ANYONE can receive the "rest" of Christ simply by surrendering to Him.
This "rest" is to be at ease in the world, and know the peace of God's closeness.

All of us "labour" in this world. If we don't we can't eat and pay bills.
Er, at least that's the way it USED to be!

And, all of us are "heavy laden" with the cares and concerns of this world. We are all burdened with: concern for family, concern for our jobs, concern for safety, concern for health, etc.

f But Jesus' "burden is light."

When we take upon us His "yoke," we learn of HIM!
We learn He is God, come in flesh to pay the debt of sin we owed.
We learn He is compassionate, caring, and loving.
We learn that one day, soon I believe, He's coming again to take us to the New Jerusalem.

The "rest," or peace of His closeness, alleviates the pain and burdens of this world!

The world is not a place of rest.
But in Jesus, we find rest from the world!

Love ya,
Bruce
