THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

A renowned economist was asked to speak to a group of business people about the recession. He tacked up a big sheet of white paper. Then he made a black spot in the middle of the paper with a pencil.
Then he asked a man in the frong row what he saw. The man replied that he saw a "black spot."
Then the economist went around the room asking people what they saw. They all said, "A black spot."
The economist said, "Excactly. You all saw the black spot. But no one mentioned the huge piece of white paper. And that's my speech."

Deut 8:11-14
11 Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day:
12 Lest when thou hast eaten and art full, and hast built goodly houses, and dwelt therein;
13 And when thy herds and thy flocks multiply, and thy silver and thy gold is multiplied, and all that thou hast is multiplied;
14 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage;

Sometimes we lose our FOCUS because we see something that is bad.
Sometimes we lose our FOCUS because we see something we think is good.
There are a lot of BAD things in the world that will distract us from doing what is right. But there are also a lot of "good" things in the world that can distract us just as much. God lists a few of those in the verses above. Prosperity can distract us as much as bad things.
As Christians, too often we find ourselves forgetting what God teaches us.
Jesus said that a house built without a good foundation will soon fall down
(Luke 6:48-49). Our lives are a "house" we are building. They must have a good FOUNDATION.
Our lives are partially affected by what goes on AROUND us. We cannot deny that. But it's what goes on INSIDE us that controls how much affect the world has on our lives.
And that's exactly what God is saying in the verses above. If we truly worship HIM, we'll not worship THINGS. And we will not be distracted from doing what's right by following the dreams of prosperity, power, and prestige.
Worship of God is accompanied by study of His Word. "Beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God, in not keeping his commandments, and his judgments, and his statutes, which I command thee this day..."
If we love Christ, we'll KEEP His Word (John 14:15).
Worship God today. Study His Word and let it be the FOUNDATION for your life. Don't forget your foundation.
Don't let the things of the world distract you from doing what is right.
Love ya,
Bruce
