THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

You can stay young indefinitely if you eat wisely, get plenty of sleep, work hard, and lie about your age!

Gen 12:10-13
10 And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was grievous in the land.
11 And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they shall say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.
13 Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister: that it may be well with me for thy sake; and my soul shall live because of thee.

There was a famine in the land to which God sent Abraham. Bad things DO happen to good people.
Now, would you call what Abraham did a half-truth, or an outright lie? Less than truth is still a lie.
Would a saved person DO such a thing? Friends, the Bible tells it like it IS! Saved people are sinners too!
Romans 3:23 says, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." And you know what, after you get saved, it STILL says the same thing! We are sinners ALL.
But, even though a saved person is not sinless, he/she should certainly sin less. And the sin of a saved person is no prettier than an unsaved person's sin. In fact, it might be uglier because it sheds a darkened light on other saved people. Saved people still have the propensity to sin, but they should work harder NOT to sin.
Abraham's lie INCLUDED his wife. Our sins affect other people.
There's an interesting thing that happens next in verses 14-20 of the same chapter. Abraham and Sarah are "found out." Pharoah TOOK Sarah, and put her in his house. Actually, Pharoah BOUGHT Sarah from Abraham by giving him "sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels." Then, God brought plagues on Pharoah and his family. Pharoah realized Abraham and Sarah were married, and that God had done this. So he returned Sarah. Then, Pharoah actually let Abraham go. And he let him KEEP the "sheep, and oxen, and he asses, and menservants, and maidservants, and she asses, and camels."
Abraham and Sarah were protected by God's grace, even though they had sinned. WHY? Partly because they were trying.
But more than that, God had promised. And Abraham had committed himself on the basis of that promise.
We can expect God to always help us, even though we sin, IF we commit to Him based on His promise of salvation through faith in Jesus.
You can lose NOTHING through surrender to God!!
