THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Grandson, "Grandma take me to the circus."
Grandma, "I can't. I've got to go to prayer meeting."
Grandson, "Grandma, if you go to the circus once, you'll never want to go to prayer meeting again."

((He may have been right!))

Ps 119:11
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
KJV

**********************************************************************************

Such a simple verse. One might have learned it in Vacation Bible School, or even in Sunday School.

The meaning to this simple verse is tremendous!

Let me point out (as I often do) that you are a tripartite person. You have three integral parts which make up the whole of who you are. First, there is the body - which tells the person of basic desires such as food, water, shelter, etc. The body is an INPUT part. Then, there is the mind - which reminds the person of rules, regulations, laws, and information. The mind is a gathering and INPUT part. Then, there is the spirit - which is the place where the person makes decisions. The spirit (heart) is an OUTPUT part. All three parts together make up the soul.

It works like this: in the fellowship meeting you see a layered coconut cake. Your body says, "I want some of that cake." The mind says, "But it has many calories and lots of cholesterol." Then the spirit makes a decision: "I'll eat it ANYWAY!" ((hehe))

The whole person is affected by the decision making process. That's why the Bible says it is important to put God's Word in the HEART (spirit).
That's where you make decisions.
That's where God's Word should take precedence.

Spiritually speaking, it is improper to make decisions based upon wants and desires.
Spiritually speaking, it is improper to say, "I've made up my mind." Intellect cannot make a decision on its own.
Spiritually speaking, it is improper to decide according to our own will. It was the improper use of our will that brought the first sin.

That's why it is important to study the Bible DAILY, and determine to live according to HIS RULES. This gives God's Word precedence over our feelings, emotions, intellect and will.

Yes, desire God's Word. Want it as you do food and water.
Yes, remember God's Word in your mind. Learning is part of doing.
But always DECIDE according to God's Word.

Love ya,
Bruce
