THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><>

A mother put her two young boys to bed and then was getting ready for bed herself. She put on some old clothes, washed her hair and wrapped it in a towel. Then she applied cold cream on her face to remove the makeup. Just as she was about to wipe off the cream, she heard the noise of the two boys playing in their room.

She stormed into the room, gave them a tongue-lashing, sent them back to bed, turning off the light as she slammed the door.

As she left the room, one of the boys said to the other, "WHO was THAT?!"

Matt 17:1-9
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3 And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
4 Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
8 And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only
9 And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.

The children were used to seeing Mom all dressed up. The sight of her in old clothes and face cream was different.

The disciples were used to seeing Jesus as a man. The sight of Him transcended to His glory was different to say the least. It was so different it was shocking!

Not only was Jesus transfigured, but also Moses and Elijah appeared. Can you imagine the shock of seeing Moses (who'd been dead 1,500 years), and he was alive and well?

John tells later of His meeting with Jesus after the resurrection in Rev 1:17-18:
"And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death."

In each of these instances Jesus told His disciples to rise up and not be afraid. Friends, God call us to HIS GLORY! One day, those who believe and surrender to Christ, shall SEE Him in all His GLORY!

Perhaps you're wondering, as I did, why Jesus said they were not to tell of this vision until AFTER His resurrection. That's because the full impact of Jesus being Messiah is not complete until AFTER the crucifiction and resurrection. To tell the story of this vision BEFORE His resurrection would risk the loss of credibility to the Gospel. Also, it would hasten the hatred of the religious leaders; and, Jesus was not yet ready for the cross. There were more things to be accomplished so that the word of the law and prophets would be fulfilled.

But NOW, the story should be TOLD! OH! How we should tell that story every day! People need to know the truth of Jesus!

Jesus is and always has been God. He put on the temporary nature of flesh to pay our sin debt. When the goal was accomplished, He shed the flesh nature and returned to His GLORY! And now He calls for men to repent, be forgiven and saved, and come to His GLORY!

WHAT A GREAT SAVIOR!!
