THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

((Thanks to JoAnn for the joke!))

We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the "seniors' special" was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $1.99.

"Sounds good," my wife said. "But I don't want the eggs."

"Then I'll have to charge you two dollars and forty-nine cents because you're ordering a la carte," the waitress warned her.

"You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?" My wife asked incredulously. "I'll take the special."

"How do you want your eggs?" "Raw and in the shell," my wife replied.

She took the eggs home!

DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!

Lev 19:32
32 Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD.

We used to have some great family reunions at my Dad's house. We lived in the country, and all Dad's brothers (5) and sisters (3) would bring their families. Those families grew! I've never understood how we could get almost 100 people in that little house!

There was always great fun!
There was always wonderful food!
And Mom and Dad always used that time to teach lessons to us children.

I remember one of my aunts coming into the room. I was sitting in a chair. Dad told me, "Son, get up and let her have your chair." Of course I did that, and found something else to do - like sit on the floor!

Later, when everyone was gone, Dad came in with his Bible. He sat down by me and read the Scripture above. Then he said, "Son, when an older person comes into a room where you are sitting, it's good manners to get up and offer them your seat. And it's especially good manners for a man to offer his seat to a lady."

With children, reverence for God is taught first by using living examples. Learning to "honor the face of the old man," we learn to honor God.

If children have no respect for parents and older people, they'll have no respect for any authority. And it will be hard to teach them to have reverence for GOD!

Come to think of it, some adults could use this lesson!

Love ya,
Bruce
