THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>
Six-year-old Angie came home from school with a blue ribbon. She said she had won it in class for knowing an answer in natural history.
Mom asked, "What was the question?"
Angie, "How many legs does a giraffe have? And I said three."
Mom, "But a giraffe has four legs."
Angie, "Maybe so. But I was closest of anyone else in the class!"

Gen 13:14-18
14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:
15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.
16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.
17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.
18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

As we have seen, Abraham was not perfect. But God gave him a great reward because he loved the Lord and was TRYING!
First, God described the land as far as Abraham could see. And God promised the land to him and his descendents.
Second, God promised Abraham descendents that would be like "the dust of the earth." That's a BUNCH!
Can you imagine how many people have descended from this man in some 4,000 years?
Remember when you are not perfect, God expects you to be TRYING! (Some of us are indeed VERY trying!)
We will never be perfect on this side of eternity. But our GOAL is perfection. We are to be striving toward it every day. Jesus said, "Be ye therefore perfect , even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect ." (Matt. 5:48)
"The mighty gulf that separated me from Christ my Lord,
It was so vast, the crossing I could never ford.
From where I was to His demand, it seemed so far;
So I cried, 'Lord, I cannot come to where you are.'
Then HE came TO me!"
(Squire Parsons "He Came To Me!")
God knows we cannot be perfect while we still live on this earth. That's why Jesus came to die for our sins. He paid the price of sin for our sakes. And we are seen, through His blood, as RIGHTEOUS in God's sight. One day God will MAKE us perfect!
But, today, God knows we should be TRYING! And He still calls us toward the GOAL.
Are you "pressing toward the mark?"
Love ya,
Bruce
