THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

(My thanks to Phil Morgan for the "beach analogy.")

A little boy and his sister were visiting with "Grandma" for a week. They came to the dinner table the first evening, and the little boy started to fill his plate and eat right away.
His little sister said, "Wait, we're supposed to pray and ask God to bless the food before we eat."
He said, "Nah! That's only for home. We're at GRANDMOTHER'S house now. She knows how to COOK!"

Ps 42:7-11
7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?
11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

On a visit to the beach, Phil Morgan was wading out into the sea with his little girl, Kayla. "At first", he said, "it was fun when the waves would crash against our feet. But then a big wave knocked Kayla off her feet and that was it. She had enough of the ocean!"
When Kayla went back to the beach, Phil waded out further. He found that if you float ON the waves, they carry you back and forth with a very peaceful motion. Then Phil said, "I think God's WILL is like the ocean. If we surrender control to Him, He will carry us where He wants us to go. But how often do we march into the water with our own agenda, only to be knocked down by wave after wave."
In the Psalm quoted above, the psalmist was crying out to God because his life was in a STORM. Wave after wave was crashing around him. And people were making him the subject of ridicule, asking "Where is your God?"
But the psalmist knew the answer was in surrender to God's will in his life. He realized that his only "hope" was in GOD!
If you are experiencing "stormy" times in your life, remember to surrender your will to the Lord. Let Him carry you along in peaceful motion until He takes you where He wants you.
We can learn from the "storms of life."
Love ya,
Bruce
