THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

There was a man who worked for a funeral home. He had to drive 1,000 miles to pick up a body and bring it back. The person who had died, had it written in his will that he did not want to be flown, but driven back to his hometown to be buried.

The driver of the hearse convinced his brother to go with him and help with the driving. After they had been on the road for quite awhile, he got tired, and his brother was going to drive. So he got in the back, and lay down by the casket.

Then the hearse had a flat. The man's brother said, "You just keep taking your nap, I'll change it."

A passerby stopped to help. While they were completed the job, the man in the back of the hearse opened the door, stuck his head out and asked, "Ya'll need any help?"

The passerby hasn't been seen since!

John 1:5
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
KJV

I don't think the passerby, in the joke above, "comprehended" the whole situation.

Look at that word "comprehended" for a moment. The Greek text reads: katalambano, which means to apprehend, come upon, find, obtain, or perceive. When the earth rotates and the sun brings the first rays of morning, the darkness does not "come upon" the light. Rather the light "finds" the darkness and penetrates it.

When you were first born, you lived in darkness; the darkness of sin. The purpose of life was only YOU. Your principles for action and decision-making were only for self benefit.

Then Christ came and brought light into your world. He brought the truths of love, hope, joy, grace, mercy, kindness, and eternity. The darkness of you could not overcome the Light, and your principles were disturbed. You determined to follow the principles of Light, and yielded to His Holy correction.

But there was and is conflict because the darkness in you is not yet totally permeated by the Light. The conflict this brought is described by Paul, "19 For the good that I would, I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me." (Rom 7:19-21)

Since you, Christian, have surrendered to the Light, you are unsatisfied with darkness. PRAISE GOD! The darkness in you has been changed by the entrance of Christ's Light. It is His Light within you that brings conviction of sin, and draws you out of darkness into His Light.

This conflict shall continue until one day the Light shall totally permeate the darkness in you and you will be made to be like Him!

Therefore, determine to continue living according to the truths shown by the Light until one day the darkness in you is overcome by Him, and you are brought into the fullness of His Light.

Love ya,
Bruce
