THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

A new Christian, in the backwoods of Louisiana, told his pastor, "Preacher. If I had 100 hogs, I'd give 50 to the Lord."

The preacher said, "Oh. So, I suppose if you had 50 hogs, you'd give Jesus 25?"
"Shore, I would!" answered the young man.

"And if you had 20 hogs would you give ten?" asked the preacher.
"Shore, I would!" answered the young man.

"And if you had only 2 hogs, would you give 1?" asked the preacher.
"Now preacher, you know I got 2 hogs!"

Most often, in relation to the Scripture above, we Christians think in terms of receiving rather than giving.

Near where I was raised is a flowing stream.
In times of dryness, the stream still flows, though weaker than in times of rain.
But it still flows, and gives life to the plants which grow along its shores.
It still gives because it receives from the underground springs.

Also near where I was raised is an old pond.
In times of rain, that old pond is full and clear.
In times of dryness, though, it reduces in size and is covered with scum.
It cannot give, because it is not receiving.

As Christians, we are constantly receiving from the indwelling Holy Spirit of God.
There are many "dry seasons" in our lives.
But, even in the dry seasons, we are receiving!

Let us then be truthful "living waters," and GIVE!

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." (Luke 6:38)

Love ya,
