THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

It is reported that a sign outside a certain church quotes Matthew 5:5 in part, "The meek shall inherit the earth."

Underneath the sign, some passerby graffiti writer has scrawled, "But not the mineral rights."

Ps 73:26
26 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.

Monday, November 14, 2005, Dr. Tom Eliff was preaching Bible Study at our Louisiana Baptist Convention. He shared how he and his wife returned home to find that it had burned to the ground. They had NOTHING left!

"But," Dr. Eliff said, "we have nothing ANYWAY, because one day it's ALL going to burn up!"

Our heart fails.
Our flesh dies.
All the world's goods will be burned one day in God's fire.
2 Peter 3:10 says, "...the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up."

If we don't have Christ, we have NOTHING.
But if we have Christ, we have EVERYTHING!

Jesus, our Lord, is our "portion" - our inheritance for eternity. Within Him lies all that we possibly can have. In the end, Jesus is ALL we have!

The psalmist said, "Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee." (Ps 73:25)

And our Lord, Jesus is all-sufficient. We have many earthly desires. Let us allow none of them to overshadow our desire for Christ.

Love ya,
Bruce
