THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
<><><><><>
Kathryn E. Mason of Pensacola, Fla. wrote the following story.
"My senor citizen's refresher driving course was almost finished, and the teacher began to drill us. He asked, "What do you do when you want to exit from a freeway?"
Pull into the exit lane before you slow down," the class chorused.
"Good, said the instructor, "And what do you do when you want to get off the freeway, but miss your exit?"
There was a pause, then a woman volunteered, "Ask the post office to forward your mail.""

Ps 71:18
18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
KJV

One fella, in a retirement home, said, "Old age ain't for sissies!"
Notice that the psalmist has two goals in mind as he approaches old age. The first goal is to express God's "strength" to the people around him. The word for strength is zeroa, which literally means "stretched out arm." God has His arm stretched out to give His strength to those who are weak. And, I don't know about you, but I'm ALWAYS weak and in need of God's strength!
The psalmist's second goal is to express God's "power" to those of the next generation. The word for power here is gebuwrah, which means "victory." The victory over adversity in this world is IMMANUEL -- God WITH us. And the victory over death is Christ carrying us to a place of eternal rest!
Are you weak today, and in need of strength? God has strength to spare and will share.
Are you in need of assurance today? God wants to be WITH you, and comfort you with His presence.
We also see that the psalmist said, "WHEN I am old..." He may still have been in his youth. But his goals were already set! He was looking forward to being a messenger for God even in old age.
Too often, as we get older, we allow ourselves to be focused on our "aches and pains," and our limitations. But let us focus on being God's messenger to those around us, and especially those who are coming behind us.
