THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Dad married my stepmother, Lorece Mock McGee in 1957. She passed away last night in her sleep at 87 years of age, and after 51 and 1/2 years of marriage.
When Mom married Dad, there were 4 of us children: Me, Sandy, Kathy and Phyllis. Mom had never been married, and never had any children, so it was a new experience for her.
Funny, how ya remember things. Not long after they married, I started driving. I remember Mom letting me drive us all to church one Sunday evening. I'm quite sure that was a new experience for her too!
When we got parked in the parking lot, I got out and noticed Mom standing by her door saying, "Thank you."
I said, "You're welcome, Mom."
She said, "I wasn't talking to you."

2 Cor 1:3-4
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

This morning, I had just gotten a cup of coffee, and was sitting here praying before writing the devotion. The phone rang. When the phone rings at my house at 5:00am, it's usually not good news. And when I heard my brother-in-law, Mike Freeman, on the other end, I knew ... I just knew.
We had just got Mom settled in the nursing home yesterday. She had never wanted to go there, and Dad had worked hard to keep it from happening.
God indeed is "the God of all comfort!" He knew she didn't want to be there, and just quietly took her on home to be with Him.
He comforted her in the times of difficulty rearing children.
He comforted her with many grandchildren.
He comforted her through all the normal "tribulations" of life.
And He comforted her in the end of life.
And God is our comfort today, in this moment of difficulty.
He gave us proof of her faith in Him over the years.
He, through her and Dad, has taught us enduring faith in Christ.
We are comforted by our Lord, Who spiritually mends the tear in our hearts.
We are comforted by Mom's strong faith in Christ, and the verse that she quoted so often in her later life:
"I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." (2Timothy 1:12)
We'll miss Mom. We'll miss her being here. We'll miss her quick wit and spicy remarks. From time to time, we'll remember her tender loving care, and shed a tear. But those tears will be because we miss her being here. We know, by faith in Christ, that when we get to heaven, we'll see her there.
Love ya,
Bruce
