THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

A teacher was giving a lesson on the circulation of the blood. Trying to make the matter clearer, he said, "Now, boys, if I stood on my head the blood, as you know, would run into it, and I should turn red in the face."
"Yes, sir," the boys said.

"Then why is it that while I am standing upright in the ordinary position the blood doesn't run into my feet?"
A little fellow shouted, "Cause yer feet ain't empty."

Have you ever stopped to wonder why God allows so many of His children to be poor?
He owns "the cattle of a thousand hills," and could lay riches at their feet.
He could cause the rich of the world to lay their riches at the feet of the poor.
Just as He caused the quail to lay at the feet of Israel in heaps, he could cause riches to be given to His children.

There is no need that God's children be poor except that He deems it best!

Now, that presents another question to ponder: WHY does God think that's best?
After all, it is not the poor that have the kingdom of heaven, it is the "poor in heart."

First, if we had no need in this world, would we really be dependent upon Christ?
Having need in this world causes us to desire to serve Him, love Him, and praise Him.
Our physical need draws us to Him who can supply the more important spiritual need.
It is not the riches of this world that are important, it is the "unsearchable riches of Christ." (Ephesians 3:8)

Since Christ loves us as we are, we love Him as He is. We are willing to be dependent upon Him for our very breath.

Second, if we had no need in this world, would we recognize and help the needy?
Being in need causes our hearts to be tender to those of like difficulty. Thus we "remember the poor" as Paul said there was necessity (Galatians 2:10).

Since Christ loves us as we are, we exemplify our love for Him by preparing of his goodness for the poor.

God may allow His children to be poor, but they are not empty!
So let us praise Him because we are filled with His provision of our greatest need!
And let us distribute to the poor of the world the "unsearchable riches of Christ."

Love ya,
Bruce
