THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

An ocean liner was sinking, and the captain yelled: "Does anyone know how to pray?"

One man was a pastor and said, "I do."

"Great!" said the captain, "You pray. Everyone else put on life jackets. We're one life jacket short!"

All too often, as Christians, we're looking for a "Quick Fix." And we look in the wrong places. Instead of relying upon God, we look around for someone else.

If we can rely upon God for eternal salvation, why not rely upon Him for all the other things of life?

The following is recounted from Phil and Pam Morgan's Newsletter. You can find out more about Phil and Pam Morgan's music ministry at "http://www.philandpammorgan.com/home"

"Without a doubt, God is still working miracles! If fact, let me share what God did just a couple of weeks ago.

I was in our garage tooling around when I happened to glance at the license plate on our van. I did a quick double take when I realized the tags had expired 4 months earlier. We had been driving the van all over ministering and had not been stopped and ticketed, there's one miracle right there, but just wait...

With our move last year I guess the renewal form didn't find us. I had a few minutes, so I hopped in and headed out to get an inspection and renew the license. When the mechanic came out with a long face and said, "Mr. Morgan," I knew the news was not good. After new shocks and front brakes, that $15 inspection ran over $700 dollars. Ouch. It hurt, but I paid up and got my license.

The next morning I ran Pam's car up to get an oil change. I'm just minding my own business when I hear, "Mr. Morgan" and think, "oh no, here we go again." Come to find out, Pam's serpentine belt was wearing out and needed replacement. I didn't even know Pam had a serpentine belt, but I want her to be safe and smooth running, so there went another $120.

I got back home and settled in to get some work done. First thing, I opened the mail, and there were several doctor bills from Pam's annual checkups. (After you break your neck, there are many doctors who want to check yearly to make sure your head is on straight.) Needless to say, the last two days had left us financially drained and worst of all, we didn't see it coming. It's never easy, but I knew God had provided for us in the past and trusted He would do it again this time.

That evening we had plans to meet some pastor friends for dinner. It was starting to snow and we thought about canceling, but we needed some relief from the pressures of the day, so we went ahead. We had a great time catching up with each other and sharing what God had done in all our lives. When dinner was over and we were saying our goodbyes, our friend handed us an envelope and told us that God had impressed upon him to give this to us. He even added that it was for us personally and not for the ministry. When we arrived home we looked in the envelope and tears came to our eyes. Even though we had not mentioned anything about our expenses of the last two days, there was a check for the same amount that we had spent. God came through and met our needs before our checks had even cleared the bank. Friends, I'll call that a miracle and give God all the praise and glory for it!!"

Love ya,
Bruce
