THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

A lady sent in (anonymously) the following things she learned while raising her boys.
1. A king size water bed holds enough water to fill a 2,000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.
2. If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.
3. A three-year-old boy's voice is louder than 200 people in a busy restaurant.
4. If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is NOT large enough to hoist a 42 lb. boy with a Superman cape. The motor IS strong enough however, if tied to a paint can, to spray paint all over a 20 ft. by 20 ft. room.
5. No matter how much jello you put in a swimming pool, you still cannot walk on water!

Gen 18:19
19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

Once a track coach at the high school found out that two brothers could really run. He wanted them on the team. But the boys both said, "Dad will not allow it. We have to work in the corn field."

So the track coach decided to visit the father and ask why. On the drive out to the small farm, he noticed something. There were only about 4 acres of corn. It was too much for a single family and the few farm animals he saw. But it was not enough to effectively market.

When the track coach arrived at the home, he met the father. Immediately he asked, "Sir, why do you keep those boys busy in the corn field? There's too much corn there for your family, and yet it isn't enough to sell. Why do you raise so much corn?"

The old man looked at the track coach and said, "Sir, I'm not raising corn - I'm raising BOYS!"

In the Scripture above (Genesis 18:19), notice three things. First, God said He "KNEW" Abraham. God KNOWS us! He knows everything about us. And he certainly knows the inside story about how we are raising our children. Effective use of children's time will keep them from trouble and teach them right things.

Secondly, God said that by knowing Abraham, he also knew that Abraham would cause his children and household to KEEP the "way of the Lord." Fathers are not just parents - they are COMMANDERS. God has formed the family such that the father is the head of the house. That means responsibility. We will answer to God for how we teach our children.

Thirdly, God knew that teaching his children the RIGHT way would be a BLESSING to Abraham. Every child is a blessing to us upon birth. And when we teach them rightly, they become a greater blessing as they grow older.

Yes. We can learn a lot from raising boys. But what's important is how the boys learn from our raising.

Love ya,
Bruce
