THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><>

A middle-aged woman had a heart attack and was taken in an ambulance to the hospital. While she was on the bed, and the doctors and nurses were buzzing round her, she had one of those "near death" experiences.

She dreamed she was entering heaven and saw Jesus. She asked Him, "Is my time up?"
He answered, "No. You have 43 years left."

Later, after she had recovered from bypass surgery, she went back to the hospital. She had a face lift, liposuction and a tummy tuck. She figured she might as well look good for the next 43 years.

When she finally left the hospital, she was run over by an ambulance and killed. Then, arriving at the pearly gates again, she asked the Lord, "You told me I had 43 years left. Why didn't you save me from that ambulance?"

He answered, "Girl, I didn't RECOGNIZE you!"

2 Pet 3:14-18
14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless. 15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. 17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness. 18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Peter says that if we are looking for the Lord's return, and looking to join Him in eternal glory, we will fill our lives with the things of God; we will strive to be "...found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless." (verse 14).

He also draws upon the knowledge of truth given by Paul. Peter alludes to the "epistles" of Paul being as "other Scriptures." (verses 15-16) That's a significant thought!!

Peter concludes his letter to the churches with two very important points. First, he says that we should be very careful not to be carried away by the world and fall from "steadfastness."

Secondly, Peter concludes that we should "grow" in the Lord. We should grow in "grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ."

We should not grow in the ways of the world, but we should grow in the ways of Christ!

Growing continuously in the ways of Christ assures that we will have recognition of Him. ((See 2Timothy 2:15))
