THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

In a small Texas town, Drummond's bar began construction on a new building to increase their business. The local church started a campaign to block the bar from opening with petitions and prayers. Work progressed right up till the week before opening when lightning struck the bar and it burned to the ground.

The church folks were rather smug in their outlook after that, until the bar owner sued the church on the grounds that the church was ultimately responsible for the demise of his building, either through direct or indirect actions or means. The church vehemently denied all responsibility or any connection to the building's demise in its reply to the court.

As the case made its way into court, the judge looked over the paperwork. At the hearing he commented, "I don't know how I'm going to decide this, but as it appears from the paperwork, we have a bar owner who believes in the power of prayer, and an entire church congregation that does not."

2 Sam 23:1-2
1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

THOUGHT______________________________________________________________________

Pause and think, dear Christian friends, about David, the "sweet psalmist of Israel."

Such beautiful poetry he wrote! What wonderful, thoughtful words came from his lips. My! How people must have been blessed to have heard him skillfully move his fingers over the harp, and sing in a melodious voice!

David was a lowly shepherd whom God grew into a great prophet and a king!
Surely his life was a wonderful story of selection and progression.

But it was not!

He was almost forgotten by his father (1Samuel 16:11).
He was thought as insolent and dreamy by his brothers (1Samuel 17:28).
King Saul was jealous of him, and persecuted him (1Samuel 18:6-9).

In his life's history, it seems David was constantly going from one trial to another. His heart was no sooner elated than it was cast into the caverns of despair. His mind was no sooner relieved than it was met with myriads of perplexity. Though a vailiant soldier, his king persecuted him. His friends became traitors. His own family tried to take away his kingdom. His life was a constant turmoil and conflict of ebbs and flows, highs and lows.

Learn a lesson from this my dear Christian friend!

Though David was continually tossed by "the storms of life," yet he became "the sweet psalmist of Israel!"

How? How could this one humble shepherd accomplish so much in history?

Because David was a man after God's own heart! (1Samuel 13:14)

In every mental conflict, and in every emotional struggle -
seek the heart of God!
And your "song" will be beautiful!

Love ya,
Bruce
