THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Bill was taking a suit to the cleaners, and as was his custom, he checked the pockets. He found a ticket for shoe repair that was over a year old. Remembering that he'd left a pair of shoes there, he called to see if they still had them.
The clerk said, "Just a moment, I'll look."
After 2 or 3 minutes of waiting, the clerk came back on the line.
"Were your shoes black wingtips that needed half-soles?"
Relieved, Bill said, "Yes, they were."
The clerk said, "Yes, they're here. We'll try to have them ready next week!"

But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Many years ago I was looking up some of my favorite verses and trying to learn the context of the Scripture. Isaiah 40:31 was one of those verses.
I found an interesting point in the definition of the word "wait upon."
The Hebrew is qavah, which means "bind together as by twisting rope." Of course the word also means "patient."
This gave me new meaning to the verse!
In order to "renew ... strength" we should bind ourselves together with God!
Many times before, I had heard the verse quoted as if we should simply sit back and wait on God patiently. However, in context, the verse does not imply that when facing difficulty we should patiently wait upon God to act.
The verse indicates that we should bind ourselves together with Him in love and servitude. Bind together in fellowship with God through prayer and Bible study. Bind together in servitude with God through giving, attending and ministering.
Then, "As we serve the Lord, we shall be renewed in strength; we shall be enabled to soar above circumstances as eagles, run and not be weary, walk and not be faint."
Let us serve Him today.
And we shall be enabled by His power in us to soar with Him!
Love ya,
Bruce
