THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

((There'll be no devotion Monday, May 25, 2009. Ann & I are taking our family to do some kayaking this weekend. Devotions will resume Tuesday, May 26, 2009.))

Boudreaux and Fontenot were walking down a street in Houston, when they saw a sign on a store that read, "Suits $5.00 each, shirts, $2.00 each, trousers $2.50 per pair."

Boudreaux said to his pal, Thibedeaux, "Look here! We could buy a whole gob of these, take 'em back to Lousiana, sell 'em to our friends, and make a fortune!! Now, when we go in there you be quiet, okay? Just let me do, the talkin' 'cause if they hear your accent, they might think we're ignorant, and try to cheat us. Now, I'll talk in a slow Texas drawl so's they don't know."

They went in and Boudreaux said with his best fake Texas accent, "I'll take 50 of them suits at $5.00 each, 100 of them there shirts at, $2.00 each, and 50 pairs of them there trousers at $2.50 each. I'll, back up my pickup and ...."

The owner of the shop interrupted, "Ya'll are from Louisiana , ain't you?"
"Well.....yeah," said the surprised Boudreaux. "How come you know dat!"

"Because this is a dry-cleaners!!!!!"

THOUGHT_________________________________________________________

Paul Harvey once told a story of an uncertain soldier in the Civil War.
The soldier wanted to play it safe. So he compromised, and dressed himself in a blue coat and gray pants, then went out onto the field of battle.
He got shot from both directions!

There are many of examples in the Bible where people, like Boudreaux and Thibedeaux, compromised:
Lot left Abram and moved to Sodom (Gen 13:12,13; 19:1-29);
Samson compromised with Delilah (Judg 16:1,2);
David committed adultery with Bathsheba (2Sam. 11:1-5);
and Solomon loved many women (1 Kings 11:1-4). These are only a few examples.

The waters of life are sometimes too hot, and sometimes too cold.
We are tempted to compromise and make the waters stay "lukewarm."

Let us remember to "praise the Lord for His goodness" at all times!
Then we won't be "taken to the cleaners," so to speak.
God will lead us "by the right way."

Love ya,
Bruce
