THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

After the wedding ceremony, the preacher noticed the young groom was fishing through his pockets.

In a moment, the young groom said, "Preacher, I seem to have lost my money. But when we have children, we'll send them to your Sunday School."

Deut 6:6-7
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
KJV

In these verses, Moses speaks of the Word of God. We are first to learn the Word of God, then teach it to our children. The most effective method of teaching is repetition. Notice the frequency of repetition mentioned in verse 7.

It is our parental duty to teach our children. Secular teaching may be delegated to others: for instance, "'readin', writin', and 'rithmatic." Even then, parents should know and supervise the material and method by which children are taught. But the moral truths, the principles of right and wrong, can ONLY be taught by the parents.

It is our primary responsibility to prepare our children for life in a world of sin. We should never tire of sharing God's truths with our children, for these truths will guide them in decision-making. Paul says to "be instant in season and out of season" (2Timothy 4:2). Morning, noon and evening we should teach and utilize God's Word to clearly define moral right and wrong.

Of course, this means parents must first learn the Word of God and be able to make life-applications. We are assisted in this by God's Holy Spirit. "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." (John 14:26)

Parental teaching of the Word of God is necessary.
It is necessary for the preparation of the child.
It is necessary for the cohesiveness of the family.
It is necessary for the promotion of the church of Jesus Christ.
It is necessary for the foundation of moral principles governing our nation and world.

Remember, "Thou shalt" is not a suggestion, it's a command!

Love ya,
Bruce
