THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
((Received this little story from a friend...CUTE!))
One year at Thanksgiving, my mom went to my sister's house for the traditional feast. Knowing how gullible my sister is, my mom decided to play a trick. She told my sister that she needed something from the store.
When my sister left, my mom took the turkey out of the oven, removed the stuffing, stuffed a Cornish hen, and inserted it into the turkey, and re-stuffed the turkey. She then placed the bird(s) back in the oven.
When it was time for dinner, my sister pulled the turkey out of the oven and proceeded to remove the stuffing. When her serving spoon hit something, she reached in and pulled out the little bird.
With a look of total shock on her face, my mother exclaimed, "Pat ricia, you've cooked a pregnant bird!" At the reality of this horrifying news, my sister started to cry.
It took the family two hours to convince her that turkeys lay eggs!

Acts 2:38-39
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

I suppose the "surprise" in the turkey was quite a shock to the man's sister!
But, that surprise was a delight to the dinner guests!
And receiving Christ as Lord of our lives yields a wonderful "suprise" for believers!
Peter tells us in 2Peter 1:4, that we receive "great and precious promises" from our Lord.
The first of those promises is the presence of God Himself, through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit (Eph. 1:13).
When we receive His Holy Spirit, then we actually receive a personal and caring teacher!
His teaching reveals more of Christ each day, and instructs us on how to live appropriately for Christ (John 14:26).
When we receive God's Holy Spirit, we also receive the ability to recall what we have learned. Then, as we go about our lives, He REMINDS us what we've learned and how we should conduct our behavior.
God's presence, His teaching, and His recall ability help us to have the ammunition we need to "escape(d) the corruption that is in the world through lust" (2Peter 1:4).
And there's MUCH MORE!
What a great joy it is to know that we receive these wonderful things by receiving Christ!
Love ya,
Bruce
