THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
A pastor placed his order at the pet store. "I need at least 50 mice, 2,000 ants and as many of those little silverfish you can get."
The clerk replied, "We can probably do that, but it might take some time. Mind if I ask why you are placing such an unusual order?"
The pastor replied, "I've accepted a call to another church. And the pastor's council told me to leave the parsonage exactly the way I found it."

First, let us be assured, a pastor must be genuinely called of God in order to fulfill all the functions of his office.
He must be a teacher, though he probably will have to corral his own class!
He must be a salesman, a handyman, a willing decoration at social functions, an entertainer, and a willing listener.
He must spend at least 50 hours in the office, 20 visiting the sick, 20 visiting the lost, 20 preparing sermons and lessons, and not desire more than minimum wage.
With his tremendous salary, he must purchase his own insurance, provide his own vehicle(s), and pay for his own gas.
He is expected to be on each and every committee, and sometimes must attend two meetings at once.
He has to be an initiator, inspirational advisor, and maintain such a sweet disposition that he will not retort upon being called names.
I could go on and on. But I think you see the point.
The pastor must be genuinely called of God in order to fulfill all the expected functions of his office!
The pastor must have a "heart" which comes from God!
He must care for the people, even if they don't care for him.
He must prepare intellectual sermons filled with inventive humor to keep attention.
He must provide "understanding" through an exemplary life, as well as through his sermons.
If ever a person in your church family needed prayer, it's the pastor!
Pray for him every day!
Love ya,
Bruce
