THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

Once, a store, in which I was assistant manager, lost power in a section. An electrician was called to find the problem. After about an hour of checking, he decided that one of the lines in the attic had lost connection.

I accompanied the electrician into the attic with a flashlight. We searched for the "problem" line. I followed the line backward from the section which had lost power. Soon I saw where it had, over the years, lost connection with the power source - I THOUGHT!

But when I picked it up, I found out DIFFERENT! I couldn't turn it loose because I had gripped it with my hand! And the voluntary flexation of the hand's muscles wrapped tightly around the line when the electricity hit me!

There I was, dancing involuntarily, until finally the electrician disconnected the line!

The shocking truth is: when electricity enters the body on the inside of gripping muscles, one cannot let go!

Ps 104:16-17
16 The trees of the LORD are full of sap; the cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;
17 Where the birds make their nests: as for the stork, the fir trees are her house.

Reading Psalm 104, one comes to realize the majesty of our Creator God.
Everything that is exists because He made it!
Everything that is continues because He sustains it!

The "cedars of Lebanon" (like the Red Oaks of California) stand regally where no human irrigation helps them. They are dependent, solely, upon our Lord for water and sustenance. They endure storms and remain solid evidence of God's provision.

To me, Christians are the same! We are saved by grace, given faith, and continue by more grace through faith which God continually strengthens.

Christians are independent of mankind, though we live in the midst of them.
We live totally dependent upon God's empowering and enabling which He provides through the presence of His Holy Spirit in our lives.

And though mankind seeks to supress him/her, the Christian remains regally "planted" and sustained by our Lord God. As a result many "birds" (unsaved) come and find shelter in the church (family) which continually stands as a reminder to God's omnipotence.

For instance, last Sunday, Pres. George Bush and his wife attended a Christian worship service, even though he was in Beijing, China. It was relatively easy for them because Pres. Bush is a diplomat, and would hardly be arrested.

At the same time Hua Huiqi, a citizen of China, was arrested for cycling to the very same worship service and his Bible was confiscated. The empowerment of God's Holy Spirit would not allow him to miss an opportunity to worship God.

The shocking truth is: Christians cannot help but be witnesses to their genuine salvation.

Today, Lord, help us to remain as a "tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither.." (Ps 1:3) By Thy same grace which sealed us, please sustain us!

Love ya,
Bruce
