THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
A man had been fishing all day and caught nothing. Finally, a very small fish took the bait, and the man reeled him in.
As he was unhooking the fish and throwing him back in the water, he said, "And come back soon with your parents!"

This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

What were the "prophecies which went before" Timothy? These must be important, for Paul tells Timothy that BY these prophecies, he is to "war a good warfare."
It is possible, though it is not mentioned in the Bible, that some men had prophesied Timothy would become a pastor.
It is possible, though it is not mentioned in the Bible, that Paul himself might have received some revelations concerning Timothy.
But one thing is for sure, there were prophecies in the Bible which stated that Gentiles would receive the blessing of God through Christ. Timothy was a half-jew (his mother was Jewish, but his father was not).
Some of those prophecies are listed here for your perusal:
Genesis 18:18, Isaiah 42:1, Isaiah 60:16, Isaiah 66:19, Joel 2:28, Malachi 1:11. These prophecies deal with the following subjects:
1) Through Abraham, God delivered a Savior Who brings blessings to all nations.
2) Christ brings judgment (deliverance) to the Gentiles.
3) From the church of the Gentiles the Gospel is preached to the Jews, and they receive nourishment.
4) Jewish disciples of Jesus first declared God's glory to the Gentiles.
5) Through Christ, God poured His Spirit upon all men.
6) And the Name of Jesus is GREAT among all nations today.
I believe it is by THESE "prophecies" that Timothy (and all Christians) are to "war a good warfare!"
Remember, my good Christian friends, God knew you from the beginning!
Remember also that He provided a Way by which you could receive salvation!
Remember that He poured His Spirit upon you. Through His Spirit you are sealed to the day of redemption.
Through His Spirit you are taught and enabled to teach others.
Remember that Christ has called YOU to make His Name GREAT among all nations.
You can "war a good warfare" by sharing the Word of God with others!
Go catch some fish!
