THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

This program of daily devotions is designed to take you through the Bible in three years. It is our desire to help you gain a better general understanding of God's Word.

Please understand that in a study this brief, we will be concerned with only the major emphases and context of the Scriptures.

Each day a devotion for one or two chapters is posted, beginning with chapter one of Genesis and going through chapter twenty-two of Revelation. You are free to print each page as it appears. If you miss a day, you may contact us and request that devotion. Please send your request, along with $.50 (p&handling) for each page to:

PSALM

CHAPTER 93

1 The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself: the world also is stablished, that it cannot be moved. 2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

The Lord is Sovereign. He reigns above all things. He is from everlasting to everlasting the King of all glory.

The Lord is established with power and strength above all creation. It was His power and strength that brought creation into being.

3 The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their waves. 4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea. 5 Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thine house, O LORD, for ever.

The "floods" represent degenerate humanity. Humanity, by sin, has "lifted up their voices" as a flood of many waters.

But God still reigns supreme in holiness (verse 5). And He reigns ABOVE the "floods" of human sin.

The devil has cast a "flood" of sin against the "woman" of God's people. But God causes the earth to "swallow up the flood" and the people are saved by His holiness (Revelation 12:15-16).

God is always reigning ABOVE sin to help His people.

PSALM 94

1 O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. 2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3 LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? 4 How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? 5 They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. 6 They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. 7 Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it.

Again, let me point out that the "wicked" refers to those people who have refused God as Lord and Master of their lives.

They are cruel and vicious people. They are marked by pride and plan sin (verses 2-4) Those who refuse God "afflict" believers daily (verse 5). They take advantage of the weak (verse 6). And they believe that God is not watching (verse 7).

8 Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? 9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see? 10 He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know? 11 The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

But one day (judgment day), all those who have refused God will realize that He is, and that He knows all the thoughts of man.

12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O LORD, and teachest him out of thy law; 13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of adversity, until the pit be digged for the wicked. 14 For the LORD will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance. 15 But judgment shall return unto righteousness: and all the upright in heart shall follow it.

The man whom God "chasteneth" is LISTENING to God. He is truly "blessed," or blissfully happpy.

The man who trusts God and is taught by God realizes that the final judgment will vindicate believers and send unbelievers to an eternal pit designed for eternal punishment.

16 Who will rise up for me against the evildoers? or who will stand up for me against the workers of iniquity? 17 Unless the LORD had been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. 18 When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O LORD, held me up. 19 In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul. 20 Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law? 21 They gather themselves together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn the innocent blood. 22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge. 23 And he shall bring upon them their own iniquity, and shall cut them off in their own wickedness; yea, the LORD our God shall cut them off.

In this world it is the duty of all belivers to answer the question in verse 16 with "I will!"

However, only by God's HELP (verse 17) can we speak out against unrighteousness in the world.

God is our "defense" and He will one day bring the struggle to an end (verse 23).

But until then, God's people (believers) are to struggle against the wickedness of this world calling upon Him all the while for help and strength.
