THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Wednesday (while on vacation) I arrived at Bent Creek Golf Course, just outside of Gatlinburg, TN.
I was planning to play 18, but the Pro said the back nine was closed, and I would have to play the front 9 twice.
He also said that one of the men who worked there had driven the golf cart off the hill at hole 14.
(Hole 14 is their “signature” hole, and has about a 41 yard “drop!”
Needless to say, I was glad the back nine was closed!
Besides that, I think the Pro sold me some golf balls that didn’t have any radar in them!
They all went crooked!
That’s my alibi for shooting 39 twice on the front nine; and,
I’m sticking to it!
And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength:
this is the first commandment.
When Jesus spoke the words of Mark 12:30 above, the people were used to hearing Exodus 20:3 quoted as the “first” command.
Ex 20:3 says, “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
Keep in mind, “no other gods” includes SELF!
But Jesus used a quote from Deut. 6:5 as the “first” command, and added “mind” to it.
And, of course, this would put the sacrifice of self FIRST in loving God!
A discouraged preacher, was really animated in his exhortation for people to seek higher and better things.
He referred, by way of illustration, to the fact that some plants thrive better in the shadow than in the sunlight.
At the close of the service a lady came to him and told him that she was so glad that she heard him.
The heart of the almost discouraged preacher revived.
Imagine his feelings, however, when she went on to say,
"I never knew till today what was the matter with my fuchsia. I shall go home and put it in a shady place."
Sometimes, Christians become more focused on the illustrations than the “Word of God!”
There is no alibi for sitting in worship service with:
and fidgety bodies!
Worship God with ALL that you are!
