THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS

DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

A pastor was delivering a dry-windy sermon. He was completely oblivious to the fact that he had lost the entire audience.

But he was brought "back to reality" when a young boy was heard blurting out, "Mom. Are you SURE this is the only way to heaven?"

John 19:16
Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

I believe, in order for this scene to have meaning for ME, it must be pictured in my mind clearly.

Jesus had suffered agony in The Garden of Gethsemane the night before.
Then He had been led away to an illegal night trial where He was beaten with a "rod."
Then He was led to Pilate, early in the morning.
Pilate sent Him to Herod, whose soldiers mocked Him and beat him.
Herod sent Jesus back, and Pilate had him scourged.

Now we see Jesus, almost devoid of strength, being "led away" to be crucified. Much of His beard has been plucked out, blood drips from Him because of the beatings and scourging. He is so weak, that a man had to be "consigned" to carry the cross for Him. Truly He has been "numbered with the transgressors," and is now allowing Himself to be made "an offering for sin."

Jesus has become the "scapegoat" (Leviticus 16:8-10) for us. Upon the "scapegoat" the high priest had laid his hands and prayed that the sin of the people be transferred to him. Then the "scapegoat" was led away from the temple, into the wilderness, and those sins would never be found again!

Is the scene vivid in your mind? Is it shameful to you that Jesus, the Lord of Glory, should suffer because of your sin? Have you called out to Him in conviction and commitment, asking Him to forgive you of those sins which brought His death?

If you have, then the picture will never leave your mind! It will always be there as a reminder of the horror and evil of sin! Yes, it is a gruesome picture!

But remember, dear Christian friend, part of that picture is YOUR sins being "led away" on the Person of Jesus -- never to be seen again!!

Your sin belongs no longer to you, God has imputed it to Christ Jesus! He was "made sin" for us so that we might be made "the righteousness of God" in HIM! (2Cor. 5:21)
He carried our sins away!

These thoughts are reflected in the song, ONE DAY, written by J. Wilburn Chapman.
"One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain,
One day they nailed Him to die on the tree;
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected:
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He!

Chorus
Living, He loved me; dying, He saved me;
Buried He carried my sins far away;
Rising, He justified freely forever;
One day He’s coming - O glorious day!"

Keep the scene in your mind, and reflect on the depths of His LOVE!

Love ya,
Bruce
