THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
Before our forefathers came to this country the Indians ran the show.
There was no national debt.
There were no taxes.
Women and children did all the work.
How marvelously we have improved!
1 Tim 2:1-6
1 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
In the early sessions of forming our U.S. Constitution the discussions:
were marred by dissension, hopeless deadlocks, and each State's stubborn adherence to its own selfish desires.
In the heat of one debate, some delegates had already given up and left, and others were giving indication of the same.
Just then, Ben Franklin rose to address the speaker.
He said, "...and have we now forgotten this powerful Friend? Or do we imagine we no longer need His assistance. I have lived, Sir, a long time; and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: 'That GOD governs the affairs of men.' And, if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aids? We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred writings that 'except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.' I firmly believe this. I also believe that without His concurring aid, we shall succeed in the political building no better than the builders of Babel; we shall be divided...I therefore beg leave to move that, henceforth, prayers imploring the assistance of heaven and its blessing on our deliberation be held in this assembly EVERY MORNING before we proceed to business..."
The motion was seconded, and yet another discussion began.
The day’s meeting was adjourned without voting on the motion.
However, the thought of turning to God in prayer was placed in the minds of all present.
Then, quite successfully, they went on with the business of writing the Constitution of the U.S.A!
PRAYER MADE THE TURNING POINT!!
Prayer can make the turning point in America AGAIN!
Tomorrow, on Thanksgiving Day, please pause for PRAYER!
Let us THANK God for this great nation we have;
Let us ASK God's presence in our nation once again,
and, let us earnestly plead for His assistance with the governing of the affairs of our citizens.
Have a wonderful THANKSGIVING!
