THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
The Sunday School teacher told the children,
"You must never do anything in private you would not do in public."
One little boy jumped up and shouted,
"Hooray! No more baths!"
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him.
47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
It seems the family came to interrupt Jesus rather than to listen to Him.
They stood aside from the others, making their request to speak with Him.
Even at that, Jesus was not neglecting His own family as much as He was ELEVATING true believers.
To surrender to Jesus as Lord means being adopted into "the family of God."
You, my dear friend, as a born-again, believing Christian are just as important to Jesus as His physical family!
You are part of His spiritual family.
He calls you "brothers and sisters."
You were His MISSION and purpose in life.
It is for you He left the comforts of His family to die on the cross!
ALL mankind is important to Christ.
And He desires that ALL MEN be saved!
Of course Jesus loved His mother and brothers – His FAMILY.
But to God, one is not more important than the other!
Jesus knew the importance of bringing the lost to salvation and educating the saved so they can become "fishers of men."
In our lives as Christians, we must BALANCE family and mission.
We must not neglect our family.
Neither may we neglect our mission by pleasuring family.
