THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
My grandmother, "Ma" Johnson, was 88 years old when Ann and I took our son, Bobby (at that time 3 years old), and daughter, Melissa (at that time 1 year old) to visit in North Carolina.
We decided we'd hike up the mountain to the old waterfall and catch some trout.
I was carrying all the fishing gear.
Ma took the lead, 'cause she knew how to find the place best.
I was kind of watching after her because of her age, even though she was hopping from rock to rock like a spring chicken!
After about a mile and one-half, I noticed Ann behind us waving at me.
I went back to see what she wanted.
She was ushering Bobby ahead of her and carrying Melissa.
She said, "You're gonna hafta help ME, Ma's doin' pretty good on her own!"
1 Peter 2:4-5
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
"Ma" Johnson died at 100 years of age on an Easter Morning.
She was always a "lively stone;" and on that resurrection day, she just rose right up to be with the Lord whom she loved.
Have you come to the "Living Stone;" that Stone of the corner that was rejected by the "builders?"
If so, you know that He has life, and gives real life to all who surrender to Him.
But did you know that the Scripture says we are to CONTINUE COMING to Jesus, the Living Stone.
Notice verse 4 above: "To Whom coming..."
It is by consistent and continual coming to Christ through Bible study and prayer that we learn of His Holy Priesthood.
We learn that He makes us able to "...offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God" through our Lord, Jesus.
We can offer the sacrifices of repentance, praise and thanksgiving.
We can also offer sacrifices of witness, testimony, teaching and preaching.
It is also by consistent and continual coming to Christ that He makes us as "lively stones."
Stones in His house that are not only part of the building (tabernacle - temple) but also LIVING parts of His constant creation.
We are "lively" because of our fellowship with Him.
His Holy Spirit inspires us and fills us with joy.
He furnishes us with His power so that we might do good works in his Name (2Tim. 3:17).
And He initiates within us a desire to be "zealous of good works" (Titus 2:14).
We are "stones" because we are part of His "spiritual house" here on earth today, and in heaven later.
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:" (1 Peter 2:9)
Keep coming to the LIVING STONE so that you might be made -
