In Harrieta, Michigan, a thirty-year-old man entered a Methodist
church on a Sunday morning and held the congregation hostage
with a rifle.

While police were en route, one parishioner asked how much the
gun cost.
The man said, "$500.00."
Another man offered him $500.00 for the gun, and he accepted
the offer.

The members of the congregation took up an offering for the
$500.00, and the man handed the rifle over.

Then the police arrested him easily.

The church really IS a "city of refuge!"

Ps 48:2-3
1 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of
our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount
Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
3 God is known in her palaces for a refuge.

Light from the Word.

One of the names for Jerusalem is "City of Peace."
And another is "City of God (Salem)."
It's rather ironical that this place has had so little peace in the
history of the world.

When Solomon built the temple there, God promised to "dwell"
among the people.

Truly the church, today, is like Jerusalem.
The Great God, Creator and Redeemer is present there!
His praise rings through the church as the saints sing and
glorify His Name!
And there, God protects His people from the "hostage takers"
of the world.

The church is a "city of refuge," an oasis in a world
seething in immorality.
It is the place where God's love abounds in His people.
A place where quiet moments of reflection soothe the soul and
prepare the heart to face the difficulties of the world.
A place for the teaching of truth, joy, hope and love.

It is the place of the "Great King!"
And He will be coming soon to call His people to Him!

What a WONDERFUL place!

Love ya!
