THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
J.M. Kennedy once told the following story.
"I am told that an Indiana cemetery has a tombstone over one hundred years old that bears the following epitaph:
'Pause Stranger, when you pass me by.
As you are now, so once was I.
As I am now, so you will be.
So prepare for death and follow me.'
Someone had scratched a reply under the inscription.
'To follow you I'm not content, Until I know which way you went.'"
Abstain from all appearance of evil.
There are many things in the world which are, without doubt, WRONG.
The Christian should certainly “abstain” from them.
There are also many things in the world which are “shadowy” concerning morality.
The Christian should also abstain from them.
Some places we just should not go.
There’s a conflict when a person calling themselves a Christian goes to a gambling casino.
But perhaps the largest conflict noticeable today is in a Christians SPEECH.
When a Christian gossips, the evidence of Christianity is “shadowy.”
When a Christian curses, the evidence of Christianity is “shadowy.”
Should the true Christian not “abstain” from those things?
Colossians 4:6 says,
“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”
If you are really a Christian, let the evidence be CLEAR!
Nothing detours lost souls from Christ more than a conflict of a Christian’s witness.
