DAILY DEVOTIONS

HI!

My dad told me, "a semon should be about Jesus, and it
oughta be about 20 min.!"

And, I suppose a devotion probably should be shorter.
So, I apologize for the length of this one.
But it really is worth the read.

Gen 15:17-18
17 And it came to pass, that, when the sun went down,
and it was dark, behold a smoking furnace,
and a burning lamp that passed between those pieces.
18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram..

LIGHT from the WORD.

Abram wanted a "sign" that he would receive all that God told
him he would inherit.
God told him to prepare for a COVENANT.

Back then, when two men made a covenant, they would slay
and divide an animal.
Then they would walk between the pieces making the
figure 8 lying down - which is the figure for INFINITY!
It was a covenant of "blood."
If one man didn't keep his part of the bargain, the other
had the privilege of dividing HIM in half!!

God added that Abram should kill a dove and a young pigeon.
These were symbols of PEACE.

Abram killed the animals and divided them.
But he did NOT divide the birds of peace.

Then, Abram fought to keep the buzzards and crows from
the pieces.
But Abram grew tired and weary!
He could NOT keep his end of the covenant!!!

So God showed up!!
A "smoking furnace" and a "burning lamp" passed between
the pieces.

The "smoking furnace" represented God's
Holy Spirit.
The "burning lamp" represented Jesus,
Who is the "LIGHT of the world" (See John 8:12)

It is the same with you and me today!!
It is a covenant of BLOOD, where God paid
God's blood for OUR benefit at the cross!

But we cannot KEEP our bargain to BELIEVE!!
Like the man who had the demon-possessed child we must
cry, "Lord, I believe: HELP Thou mine UNBELIEF!"
(See Mark 9:24)

We are not saved by faith!
We are saved by grace THROUGH faith! (See Eph. 2:8-9)
It is the amazing, unearned, unmerited, undeserved GRACE
of God that BRINGS us FAITH!!

Then, when we are weary, tired, ill - GOD SHOWS UP!!
His PRESENCE keeps us in FAITH!

PRAISE GOD!!!!!

God's COVENANT is with GOD
for OUR BENEFIT!!

HE has provided ALL we need!

The ONLY way to ENTER this covenant is by
SURRENDER to Jesus as LORD. (See John 14:6 and Lk. 9:23)

If you have truly ENTERED,
be assured you will be KEPT!!

Love ya!
