One week, the message on the sign outside the church said,
"We fail to rise higher
Because we aim too low."

That weekend, a hole was found just below "low."
The hole was made by a beer bottle thrown at the sign.

Next week, the message on the sign outside the church read,

That weekend, another well aimed beer bottle went through the sign just above

Little did the culprit know a trap had been set, and he was caught on video tape!

1 Cor 16:13
Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

Two intoxicated men entered a small boat and endeavoured to row across the lake.
They rowed from 2AM to 6AM, wondering why it was taking them so long to reach the other side.
Finally, at dawn, they saw the reason.
The boat was still tied to the dock!

Many a Christian is so intoxicated by the world, they fail to see the "rope" that binds them from moving onward in faith.

In our text above, God gives us three commands that help us "cut the ropes" that bind us, and continue growing in faith.

First, "Watch ye." Be spiritually alert.
Remember the world hated Jesus, and He said they would also hate true disciples or believers.
There were "deceivers" among the Corinthians, and there are deceivers among us today.
In order to remain spiritually alert we should be faithful in Bible study, prayer, attendance, and ministry.

Second, "stand fast in the faith."
It is by faith in Christ that we are saved, and by that same faith we must continue.
It is only in Christ that we overcome the difficulties of the world.
"....and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith." (1 John 5:4)

Third, "quit ye like men, be strong."
Be resolved to act strenuously.
Spend much time in study in order to not be deceived.
There are those who would divide you into factions, those who would corrupt you and those who would seduce you to a lesser faith.
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:" (1 Peter 3:15)

Put Christ in the center of your life, and plan all other things around Him.

Love ya!
