THROUGH THE BIBLE IN THREE YEARS
A young pastor was attending seminary.
One Sunday, he delivered a very dry theological sermon.
One of the older men, who never complimented him on his
sermon, came by and shook his hand.
“Pastor, that sermon reminded me of the peace and
love of God!”
Surprised, the pastor asked, “Why do you say that?”
The older man said, “Because it ‘passed all understanding,'
and seemed to ‘endure forever!’”
But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving;
I will pay that that I have vowed.
Salvation is of the LORD.
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other
name under heaven given among men,
whereby we must be saved.
Light from the Word.
Take note of Jonah 2:9 above, “Salvation is of the LORD.”
Salvation is the WORK of God.
Salvation is NOT the work of men!
It is something God works UPON you, IN you and
It is both His desire and His purpose for men upon this earth.
God is “not slack” concerning His purpose!
He is even at this day “longsuffering” sinners and desiring
that “all should come to repentance.” (2Pet. 3:9)
AND, God has chosen that by “the Gospel of Christ,”
through “the foolishness of preaching” people will
come to the knowledge of both sinfulness and the need of salvation
which is offered by God through Jesus Christ
(See Rom. 1:16, and 1Cor. 1:21)
IN the work of salvation God:
Captures the attention of sinners with the Gospel of Christ,
Convicts of sin,
Convinces that Jesus is the ONLY Savior,
Calls to a commitment of surrender to Jesus, (Acts 4:12 above)
Compels to open and public confession of faith in Christ,
and, Continues the work of salvation until the final completion.
AND, God’s Holy Spirit uses saved people in the
“foolishness of preaching!”
That “preaching” is actually a simple proclamation from EACH
saved sinner TO lost sinners.
It is simply their testimony of how they met Christ,
and the changes that have taken place in their lives.
So, Christian, How is YOUR PREACHING going?
